Committee members needed for the (H)EAT campaign

Tom Holbrook, Owner of RiverRun Bookstore and president of a non-profit called Seacoast Local, is looking to raise $50,000 to help needy residents on the seacoast pay for food and home heating this winter. It’s called the (H)EAT campaign. Pronounced “Heat Eat”.

Seacoast Local  is a grassroots, not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting community involvement in local business, agriculture, arts and culture, the environment and civic life in the Seacoast region of southern Maine and New Hampshire.

The organization needs committee members to help shape and launch the campaign, and volunteers to help here and there throughout the year when they need an extra hand. When passing emergency legislation to provide additional assistance this winter; Governor Lynch said “Today, we are sending a clear message that we are not going to leave our citizens out in the cold. We are going to give them the help they need to stay warm this winter.”

When people hear these words, they think the problem lies in other, less affluent areas of the state, but the truth is there are many people here on the seacoast that desperately needs help.

The committee will meet every Wednesday at SecondRun Bookstore, 7 Commercial Alley, Portsmouth, NH at 5:30pm. Please join them whenever you are able. If you can help in any way, or would like more information, email Tom at tom@heat-eat.org.
