Donating $1.00 per month helps keep everyone’s lights on

New Hampshire winters are tough and can sometimes put a serious strain on a household’s energy budget. PSNH established the Neighbor Helping Neighbor fund in 1986 in an effort to assist customers who can’t afford to pay their electric bill but do not qualify for federally funded fuel programs.

PSNH customers can donate to the Neighbor Helping Neighbor (NHN) program by including an extra amount in their bill payment. There are two ways to do this. One way is to just add $1 to your payment. When you add exactly $1 over your bill amount to your payment, it will automatically be allocated to NHN. It will appear on your next bill statement as a line item in the Your Account Summary section at the top of the bill.

The other way is for a regular donation. If you would like to regularly donate $1 to $10 (whole dollar amounts) in your monthly bill, call a Customer Service representative at 1-800-662-7764 to establish your donation. For example, if you sign up to pay $5 each month to NHN, the NHN line will appear on your bill statement and the extra $5 will be included in the total amount due. Note: if the payment made is more or less than the total amount due, the entire payment will be credited to your service account and nothing will be allocated to NHN.

By adding an extra payment to their electric bill payment, or by sending a contribution directly to the Neighbor Helping Neighbor fund, customers help other customers in need. In 1992, this program expanded to include other New Hampshire utilities statewide, and now helps more than 1,100 families with financial hardships each year.

To make a contribution directly to the fund, make your check or money order payable to Neighbor Helping Neighbor, and mail to:

Neighbor Helping Neighbor Fund
P.O. Box 3804
Manchester, NH 03105-3804

As the Neighbor Helping Neighbor fund is an IRS approved 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, all contributions are tax deductible, and 100 percent of your contribution will be used to help your neighbors in need. Every donation makes a difference.

Applications for assistance through the fund are available through the Community Action Program agencies throughout the state.
